Tarnished Star

Greg Hardy signed a 1 year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, and his debut will be delayed until later in the 2015 season. The NFL suspended him for the first 10 games after his first domestic violence trial that found him guilty.  The charges were dropped when the victim took a financial settlement, and Hardy will appeal his suspension.   The NFL had to send a strong message and after last season in which the league took a hits this has to be done.   Even if the suspension is reduced Hardy will be punished for his past actions.  The NFL is starting to take a stronger stance on domestic violence, and it has to continue despite the mistakes of the past.   With the NFL Draft two days away the league needs to take stronger stance on off the field issues.

Money Man

This Saturday night Floyd “Money Mayweather will take on Manny Pacquiao and in the opinion of some boxing experts the “Fight of the Century”.   Mayweather’s flamboyant personality, boxing skills, and business sense has made him a lot money over his undefeated career.   However, his past charges of domestic violence has turned off female fans and received a lot of criticisms for his actions.   In contrast, Manny Pacquiao rise from poverty to international boxing star has made beloved in the Philippines, and the perfect counter-point to Mayweather.    This fight will be a tough to predict because Mayweather’s boxing skills vs Pacquiao’s punching power.    I see this fight going the distance and Mayweather winning a close decisions, but in boxing you never know what going happen with the judges.

Breaking the Ice

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going into the off-season with a lot of questions.  According to Team President David Morehouse there will be no changes with the head coach or general manager.   There are 10 free agents on the team and GM Jim Rutherford said there will be some trades to get some top 6 forwards.     He also said that the team needs more speed and young talent will be giving a chance to make the team at training camp.   It was a tough season because the team was not  completely healthy and it should during the playoffs against the NY Rangers.  If the right trades are made, young players come through, and healthy players like Dupuis, Letang, and Matta return this team could be back in the thick of the Stanley Cup Playoffs next season.

Game 5 VS Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins came out with desperation trailing the NY Rangers 3 games to 1 in the series.   However the Rangers  took the lead when Derek Stepan scored on the power play to give them a 1-0 lead after the first period.  In the second  period both goaltenders played outstanding, but Nick Spaling tied the game later in the period   Neither team scored in the third period, but they were a lot of chances on both sides.     Then midway through overtime Carl Hagelin scored to win the game 2-1 and the series 4 to 1.   There will be a lot of changes with free agents, trades, and maybe some young talents on the way for the Penguins.

Game 4 VS Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a great start in-game 4 with Patric Hornqvist scoring to give them a 1-0 lead after the first period. The NY Rangers started to take control of the game midway through the second period with Derrick Brassard tying the game at 1 apiece.   In the third period, both teams came out pushing the tempo but both goalies played great forcing overtime.  Then Rangers made a great play on the face-off and Kevin Hayes scored on the rebound to give them a 2-1 win,.  The Rangers have a commanding 3-1 series lead, and could end it Friday night game 5 at Madison Square Garden with the face-off at 7:00 P.M.  If the Penguins win there will be a game 6 at Consol Energy Center Sunday afternoon at 12:30 P.M.

Timmy

Tim Tebow was signed to a one year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles and it was not a surprise to me.  Head Coach Chip Kelly is not a typical NFL:coach.  Tebow is not your typical NFL QB and could be a big part of the Eagles offense.  However the Eagles have Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley, and Sam Bradford as the other quarterbacks.   I would be shocked if one of the other quarterbacks could be traded before the NFL Draft.   Tebow may not be guaranteed of an NFL job, but this could be his best and last chance to make it in the NFL as a quarterback.

Game 3 vs Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins could not give up the first goal and they did when Carl Hagelin took advantage of a bad line change and scored to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead after the first period.   Midway through the second period,  Chris Kreider gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead, but it was after a non penalty call before the goal.    The Penguins trailed 2-0 going into the third period and changed their tactics.    They crowded Henrik Lundqvist and threw everything at him, and Patric Horniqvist scored to cut the deficit to 2-1.    Unfortunately, the Penguins came short and losing 2-1 plus trailing in the series 2 games to 1.  The Penguins cut down on their penalties, but they didn’t have a 60 minutes effort this evening.   They have to have it on Wednesday night for game 4 at Consol Energy Center or the Penguins will go back to Madison Square Garden trailing 3 games to 1.  If the Penguins are trailing 3 games to 1 going into Friday’s night game in NYC i don’t like their chances.

Game 2 VS Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins were shorthanded 7 times in tonight’s game, but killed off 6 out of the 7.   They scored twice on the power play on 4 attempts.  Marc-Andre Fleury played great this evening outshining Henrik Lundqvist.  Sidney Crosby scored twice this evening, Brandon Sutter and Chris Kunitz scored a goal to give the Penguins a 4 to 3 win and tied the series at one game apiece.   The only problem I have is that the Penguins are in the penalty box too much and the penalty killers could give up a goal because of fatigue.  Some the penalties that were not called  were outrageous and the officiating has to be more consistent both ways.   Game 3 will be Monday night at the Consol Energy Center with the face off at 7:00 P.M.

Game 1 Vs Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins were the underdogs vs the NY Rangers in-game one of their Stanley Cup Playoff series.   The Rangers took a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Derick Brassard and Ryan McDonagh.  The Penguins played well from the second period on, and Blake Comeau scored to cut their deficit to 2-1 after two periods.  Neither team scored in the 3rd period as the Rangers held to win 2-1 and take a 1-0 lead in the series. Marc-Andre Fleury played well and got the 3rd star in tonight’s game.   The Penguins spend too much time in the penalty box during the game and Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Chris Kunitz didn’t get a lot of shots on goal. Game 2 is Saturday night at 8;00 P.M. and the Penguins have to win this game because this series could be a short one if they don’t.

Josh

Baseball has already started and already there is one controversy that is a distraction for the Los Angeles Angels.  Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton who is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, and in the off-season had a relapse with drugs and alcohol.  Hamilton has battled drug and alcohol issues during his star-crossed career, and he reported the relapse.   The MLB CBA announced that he would not be punished for his transgression, but the Angels want to protect themselves financially.  They wanted  to tear up his contract for what happened.   Hamilton had people to help him stay sober in the past few seasons, but he is still dealing with the same problems.   Who is to blame for this situation either Hamilton or the Angels?   The focus should be on Hamilton getting help for his issues, and as for the Angels they should not try to punish him, but to try to help him out as much as they can.
