On Sunday afternoon, Kobe Bryant announced this season will be his last with the Los Angeles Lakers and in the NBA. This was made via the Players’ Tribune in a letter titled Dear Basketball. He has 17 All-Star appearances, 5 NBA titles, 2 Olympic Gold Medals, and over 30,000 points in his twenty-year career. Kobe has dealt with injuries in the past two seasons, and with the Lakers in full rebuilding mode this is the right time to announce it. Kobe has been struggling and the team is not winning that means a frustrating season for Lakers fans. These fans who loved winning in the Showtime era of the 1980’s and during the Shaq and Kobe era of the late 1990’s. Now Laker fans are dealing with mediocrity, and it means waiting to become a winner in a few years. Kobe might have a farewell tour and maybe one more All-Star, plus playing on Team USA in the Summer Olympics in Rio. And as far of his post NBA career broadcasting could be an option or maybe staying in the game in another capacity.
