The Corner

The Steelers 2nd round pick was Sean Davis a cornerback from the University of Maryland, but he will be a safety in the pros.  Their 3rd round pick was Defensive Tackle Javon Hargrave of South Carolina State and he will provide depth on the defensive line.  Tomorrow is the 4th through the 7th round and the Steelers can go for the best athlete available.

Laremy Tunsil had an amazing career at Ole Miss as an offensive lineman.   Unfortunately  his draft stock fell because he admitted to taking money from a coach and putting a gas-mask on smoking marijuana in a video.   He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins and had to answer questions about his video.   Admitting to taking money could put Ole Miss in a lot of trouble with the NCAA.    Will Tunsil get any punishment from the NFL and could his career be done before it gets started.

Cane Cornerback

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Artie Burns in the first round of the NFL Draft.   The University  of Miami Hurricane cornerback was the need they need to fill. Only time will tell if this pick will help the secondary.    The second and third round is tomorrow and they need to improve their defensive line and offensive line depth.   The fourth through seventh round is Saturday and they could find a diamond in the rough.

Game 1 Vs Capitals

T.J Oshie got a hat trick especially the one in overtime to give the Capitals a 4-3 win over the Penguins.  It started in the first period when Andre Burakovsky scored to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead after the first period.  In the second period, Ben Lovejoy tied the game and then thirty-seven seconds later Evgeni Malkin gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead.   Then twenty-three seconds later Oshie scored to tie the game at 2 after the second period.   Oshie gave the Caps a 3-2 lead, but Nick Bonino tied the game at 3.  Oshie’s OT goal sneaked through Matt Murray’s pads it was reviewed by the referees and it was a good goal.  The Penguins have to improve the power play before game two Saturday night at the Verizon Center at 8:00 P.M.

Game 5 Vs Rangers

The Pittsburgh Penguins are going to the second round after defeating the New York Rangers 6-3  to win the series 4 games to 1.   The Rangers started out quickly on a Rick Nash goal 1:02 seconds into the game.  Then Carl Hagelin tied the game at 1, and Dominic Moore scored 45 seconds later to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.  Phil Kessel scored on the power play over minute later to tie the game at 2 after the first period.   Then the Penguins dominated the second period and chase Henrik Lundqvist from the game.  Bryan Rust took a great pass from Trevor Daley and scored giving the Pens a 3-2 lead.    Matt Cullen scored to increase the lead to 4 to 2.   Connor Sheary scored after a great pass from Sidney Crosby for a 5-2 Penguins lead, and Rust scored his 2nd goal of the game late in the second for a 6-2 Penguins lead.   Chris Kreider scored a power play goal to cut the lead to 6-3, but Matt Murray played another outstanding game.   Now the Penguins wait for either the Philadelphia Flyers or the Washington Capitals in the next round.  Times and Dates are to be determined.

Game 4 Vs Rangers

Matt Murray started tonight and had an outstanding game versus the New York Rangers.  Eric Fehr scored a 1:09 into the first period to give the Penguins a lead they would not lose.  Patric Hornqvist would score on the power play to give them a 2-0 lead and Connor Sheary scored to give the Pens a 3-0 lead after the first period.  Evgeni Malkin would score on the power play to chase Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist and give the Pens a 4-0 lead after the second period.  Malkin would score again on the power play to give the Pens a 5-0 win.  However, the story was Murray who became the youngest Penguins goalie to record a shutout.  The Penguins can end the series this Saturday at Consol Energy Center face off time is at 3:00 P.M.

Game 3 Vs Rangers

Matt Murray was the starter in-goal for the Penguins against the New York Rangers in-game three.   After a scoreless first period, in which, a Chris Kreider goal that was overturned by coach’s challenge.  Rick Nash scored a short-handed goal 39 seconds in the second period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.    The Penguins were on the power play late in the second period when Sidney Crosby tied the game at 1.    Then Penguins took control of the game in the third period.   Matt Cullen went through two Rangers defenseman to give the Pens a 2-1.  Kris Letang added an empty net goal to give the Penguins a 3-1 win, and a 2 games to 1 series lead.    Game 4 is Thursday night at Madison Square Garden with the face off at 7:00 P.M.

The Summer Olympics start up on August 3rd in Brazil and now the President Dilma Rousseff has been impeached by Brazilian legislators.   The impeachment is because of budget gaps with money from public banks.   This matter and zika virus are the reasons that Brazil should not been awarded the Olympics in the first place.  Brazil had issues with civil unrest and financial problems in the past few years.  They had some problems with the World Cup in 2010.   The IOC wanted South America to host the Olympics and bend over backwards for Brazil to get it.   I am hoping that the IOC will clean up its act in selecting cities to host.

Game 2 Vs Rangers

Evgeni Malkin came back this afternoon but it was the New York Rangers that won 4-2 to even the series at 1 game apiece.    It was a scoreless first period and the Penguins had the better of the play.   Phil Kessel scored on a power play to give the Pens a 1-0 lead, and then the Rangers took control of the game.  Keith Yandle and Derrick Brassard scored goals eighteen second apart to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.    Matt Zuccarello scored later in the period to give them a 3-1 lead.   Chris Krieder scored thirty-nine seconds into the 3rd period to give the Rangers a 4-1.  Kessel scored his 2nd power play to cut it to 4-2, but it was a close as the Penguins would get.  Henrik Lundqvist was back in-goal for the Rangers and he was sterling.   Jeff Zatkoff was good for the Penguins, but was betrayed by his defense.  Game 3 will Tuesday at Madison Square Garden with face at 7:00 P.M. The big question is will Marc-Andre Fleury be in goal for the Pens.

73 and 60

Tonight was the end of the NBA regular season and there were two major stories.  One was Kobe Bryant’s last NBA game with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors trying to win their 73rd game to break the Chicago Bulls record of 72-10 from the 1995-96 season.   The Warriors achieved the record defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 and Kobe Bryant scored 60 points in a Lakers 101-96 win over the Utah Jazz.   Both of these stories are extraordinary in their own way.   The Warriors are the defending NBA Champions and had an amazing start to the season with a 39 and 4 record with their Head Coach Steve Kerr out from back surgery.   Stephen Curry is playing like the MVP he was last season.

Kobe Bryant had an amazing 19 year career all with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the team  was going through a rebuilding season.   Kobe saved his best for last scoring 60 points and after the game the fans at the Staples Center gave him a standing ovation.   Then at the end of speech he said “Mamba Out.”     This was probably the best ending of the NBA regular season and can’t wait for the Playoffs to start this Saturday.
